MILTON WI

WELCOME! You have reached the information pages for the
Women's Institute for Milton, near Cambridge UK.

Here you will find dates of our Monthly Meetings, most of which include guest speakers. We also offer a wide choice of planned activities such as lunches, walks, darts, an annual summer outing, cinema or theatre visits, bowls and more. Take a look, you may be really surprised!

There has been a WI in Milton for many years - we celebrated our 90th birthday in 2015 - and members, past and present, have contributed much to our local community. We are very keen to welcome new friends of all ages to our Monthly Meetings!

In addition, details of a broad range of events, outings and day schools organised by the Cambridge Federation of Women's Institutes are always on display at our Monthly Meetings.

For general information on the WI, click here for a link to the National Federation of Women's Institutes where you will also find details of courses available at Denman College. This is the WI's home of creativity in Oxfordshire and offers over 600 courses – either residential or day schools - which are open to all
WI members and non-members, men and women, and students of all ages.

Have you ever thought..."why should I join the WI?" Well, just click on the titles below or better still, come along as a guest to one of our meetings...you will be most welcome!

Following in the footsteps of The Queen Mother, Sophia Loren & Lauren Bacall!

What does Milton WI have in common with these people? Well, all of the above and five of our own members have been visitors to the former home of the prolific British sculptor and artist, Henry Moore and his wife, Irina at Perry Green in Hertfordshire. We enjoyed a fascinating guided tour of their home, Hoglands, courtesy of our very knowledgeable guide Frances and another volunteer guide, Chris, showed us around various studios within the 73 acre garden and provided an extremely detailed insight into the influences which guided Moore to become one of our most famous and highly regarded artists. Producing some 1000 sculptures and 6000 drawings, a large amount of this life's work is beautifully preserved and exhibited by The Henry Moore Foundation, who manage the properties.
Here are video clips of Chris, along with several photographs to record our visit. We are sure that we will return to Hoglands, as there was so much to see and absorb. This is a highly recommended day out, further details can be found on the Foundation website here.
We also enjoyed coffee and cake on arrival at the excellent pub nearby - The Hoops....also well worth a visit!

For those interested, here is a link to an interesting collection of documentaries on the life and work of Henry Moore, within the BBC Archive.
