Saturday Morning Visit to The Animal Health Trust

14 members of Milton WI enjoyed a fascinating insight into the work and research undertaken by the dedicated team at this charity’s premises at Kentford, near Newmarket.

“The Animal Health Trust exists to fight disease and injury to animals. Thanks to our pioneering work improving diagnosis, treatment and prevention, horses, dogs and cats are living healthier, happier lives – in the UK and across the world!”

We were met by Andrew Simmonds who gave us an overview of the charity, its history and details of it’s commitment to providing expert treatment and research for a variety of illnesses of small companions and horses. Then, we were welcomed by Karen Felton at The Small Animal Clinic and shown around the treatment areas, hydrotherapy pool and were introduced to a few patients who were being cared for after surgery. Finally Fernando Montessa, a vet who qualified in his home country of Brazil, showed us around the Equine Centre facilities, with it’s radiotherapy areas and stables where we all stopped to meet some patients in the stable block!

Everyone enjoyed this “behind the scenes” visit immensely and would certainly recommend other WI members to visit. Our time there concluded with us enjoying a wonderful, home cooked lunch in the café and some retail therapy in the shop afterwards.

Please click here to view the Animal Health Trust website where there are several excellent videos showing the work of the Trust.

Here are some photos to remind us of this excellent visit.
